At MUD Jeans, we fight global warming with denim. Since 2012, we’ve pioneered circular denim, turning old jeans into new ones. Our mission is simple: make fashion waste-free, without compromising on design, comfort, or quality.
We rescue old jeans destined for landfills or incineration, remove the buttons and zippers, and recycle the denim fibers into fresh yarn. These yarns are spun into premium new denim, ready to be worn, loved, repaired, and recycled again.
This is what makes us the world’s first circular denim brand.
Why Post-Consumer Recycled Cotton?
Not all recycled cotton is the same. Here’s the difference:
-
Pre-Consumer Recycled Cotton
Comes from factory waste: offcuts and unused scraps from garment production. Easier to recycle because the fibers are clean and strong. -
Post-Consumer Recycled Cotton
Comes from worn, loved, and returned clothing in our case, old jeans sent back through our Take-Back Program. Harder to process because the fibers are shorter and weaker after years of use, but much more impactful.
At MUD Jeans, we focus on post-consumer because it tackles the real problem: the mountain of clothing waste piling up worldwide.

Why It’s Hard (and Why We’re Proud)
Recycling worn-out denim isn’t simple:
- Every time cotton is recycled, the fibers get shorter and lose strength.
- To keep quality, softness, and durability, most brands mix in lots of virgin cotton.
- That’s why most denim on the market stops at 20–40% recycled content and often it’s pre-consumer, not post.
At MUD Jeans, we’ve always pushed the boundaries of circular denim. Today, our jeans contain up to 55% post-consumer recycled cotton, among the highest in the industry. And we’re not stopping there. Stay tuned for what’s next.
The Road to 100
Our next milestone is our most ambitious yet: jeans made of 100% post-consumer recycled denim. No new cotton. No waste. Just old jeans reborn as new.
This “Road to 100” is more than a technical challenge, it’s proof that circular design can reshape the fashion industry. We want every old jean to come back to us, so together we can fight global warming and create a waste-free future.
Why This Matters
- Water: A MUD Jeans pair uses just 460 liters of water compared to 7,000 liters industry standard: a 90% reduction.
- CO₂: Each pair emits only 3.5 kg of CO₂, almost 50% less than conventional denim.
- Circularity: By collecting, recycling, and remaking, we keep valuable fibers in use and out of landfills.
